all of the tracks were created using a limited amount instruments, with a deliberate crossover of old synthesizers like a farsa organ or sequential circuits s pro-one and 90s technology like the roland jd-800. it is curious that lawrence says all his synths are half-broken, since the sounds he extracts from them are absolutely healing.

segun bucknor fell in love with american soul music as a student at new york�s columbia university. otis redding, wilson pickett, sam cooke and ray charles hadn�t made much of a splash in africa at the time and when bucknor returned to nigeria in 1968, he was determined to bring the sound to a wider audience.
the result was brand of afro-soul that in turn became a proto-type of afrobeat. with his bands, the assembly and the revolution, he released a few politically charged tracks, but even with his energetic dance trio, the sweet things, turning up the heat, bucknor couldn�t compete with fela kuti.

pavel ludin returns to poker flat wax with a gripping four-tracker showcasing his myriad of talents. born and raised in eastern siberia, pavel iudin found his way to the underground scenes of moscow and saint petersburg where he firmly established his credentials. the probe ep finds him at the height of his powers, serving up some serious burners. �probe 2&#8242,,,, is a throbbing, deep roller with shimmering synths and a shuffling, evolving groove - one for keeping the floor on lock whatever the situation. �halo� has more classic feel to it, clearly a nod to the chicago masters of the 90s, but maintaining a tough and fresh feel that is all ludin�s own. half way though, things really open up into thick, swingy vibe via a killer bassline and snappy percussion. �probe 3&#8242,,,, is more acidic outing - although never resorting to the iconic 303, the track is a lysergic journey into dubbed out tech-house. closing out the ep is �groundlevel� - a driving, loopy groover that uses ludin�s feel for atmosphere and tension to the max. the whole ep exudes a steely-eyed mastery of the studio and the dance floor - making pavel iudin one to watch over the next months.

archeo are at it again, finding yet more hidden delights from italy s bountiful musical past. paolo modugno s brise d automne originally came out in 1988 and has since been highly coveted by record collectors fascinated with the new age delights contained within. archeo have gone all out for this reissue, pressing the album on heavy vinyl to allow the music to really breathe, and adding a second disc with two tracks previously unavailable on vinyl. the curious fusion of organic and electronic elements with a daring approach to production makes for one of the most unique records you re likely to hear all year.

the 9th piece to the ever growing vinyl puzzle comes from encrypted audio s own trisicloplox (killian) residing in the us heartland for bass music denver / colorado. not the only denver ite on the ea roster you will be hearing from i assure you. killian s love for distortion and forward thinking wave forms takes the listener into an emotive bass and kick driven frenzy across all his tracks. cafe blank in a monster with a driving kick pattern and distorted topline to carry off any rave. estranged leaves you in a field a bass frequencies hard to match. iaido is seeing a lot of support from the likes of gothtrad and recently even the likes of the bug have found their ears gravitated towards trisco.

patrice bäumel is on fire right now. top remix after top remix and now he debuts on afterlife with an impeccable two tracker. hypnotic styled cuts which will get all the plays they deserve and it s also a new direction for afterlife recordings.

sport 1000 debut release, its origins remaining in the murky shadows of anonymity for now. while drenched in sounds spanning back to early jungle and hardcore, these tunes are crafted with a sense for modern tastes, ready to flip the vibe in a brave dj s 4/4-set. -dream support- bopps along nicely with warm chords and a skippy breakbeat, until the bottom end opens up with a big reese-workout and suddenly you re down at the blue note in 1996, filtered mentasm-samples and all. -dawn queen- follows a similar path, it s chugging breakbeat slowly getting friskier with some tasty amen-cuts.

finnish techno icon mono junk aka kim rapatti joins forces with berlin based freestyle man aka klas sasse lindblad, known for his productions on classic labels like sähkö and moodmusic. pata ep starts with the hard hitting techno title �not a love story�, haunting vocals, simple synthline, slicing percussion and deep bassdrum, all u need to make an effect, this must be heard in a big sound system. following with �need your lovin� the ep takes a more electro approach, mesmerising love story with jupiter-8 bassline and 808 beats accompanied with vocals on this track too by mr rapatti. the ep ends with �stella polaris�, a production which started as a jam in 2007 in berlin at sasse�s blackhead studios and was finished 10 years later in 2017 in the same location. reminiscing of early 90s electronica time when everything was pure and gold and when these fellows also were starting their careers. �stella polaris� leaves no one cold with emotional themes of analog synthesis and depth of the bass.

after a 3 year hiatus from his avatism moniker, thomas feriero, one half of cw/a and owner of parachute records, returns with an ep for his home label vakant. a rough yet refined release, unassuming in its effort, thomas channels both his previous solo work and his cw/a project into a tightly wound package with 4 solid cuts. various influences converge yet a straight line is etched for all to follow. these are up-front, hard working tracks. body music with an undercurrent of breakbeat. his first ep on vakant since his album. file under need / want.

the sixth compilation of mutated machine music from contort yourself centres around british industrial pioneers nocturnal emissions. the group hack out two thick cuts of oil soaked savagery. gears crunch and chains clatter as drum machines are minced and mangled for demon circuits bloodbath before the reduced and removed bitterness of even the good times are bad. l.i.e.s. main man ron morelli under the guise of u-202 takes on the static of the 83 original, lonesome rhythms fired into a gaping hollow of echo and decay. there is brief respite, very brief, coming in the haunted strings of penelope s fiance. torrent grinds this short break into dust with exe 2 blueprint, a sludge stomper drowned in distortion and dripping with distress. innsyter (l.a. club resource), aka seixlack, calls time with the hazy house bottle smasher, think fog machines and bodies in the dark and youre getting close. off-kilter madness all-round!

�muen� is based on the concepts of �muen�, �kugai� and �raku� all referring to tactical �freedoms� or �liberties� within the structures of medieval japan. a reflection on concepts that have been lost since the seventeenth century, according to historian yoshihiko amino. while �muen� echoes of the seminal early 90s merzbow, playing on the relationship between metal noise and instrumental oscillations, it differs in interaction between the two. where the pure noise used to dominate, the instrumentation has taken over, making the whole soundscape oscillate and vibrate. each side is one long piece unfolding, an ocean of tones and frequencies, a catharsis of sound, dynamics and power. �muen� is a vitally sonic experience from a true master and innovator of electronic music for followers both new and old. �muen� is limited to 375 copies
